The Pain Management Center offers state-of-the-art services for individuals experiencing a wide range of pain-related conditions.
The Center is staffed by attending physicians who are board-certified in their respective fields with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of pain disorders. The Center's pain management specialists utilize an extensive array of interventional modalities in their approaches to treatment and management. In addition to back, neck and musculoskeletal pain, areas of special excellence include post-herpetic neuraligia, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, peripheral neuropathy and myofascial pain syndrome. Also offered are comprehensive pain medication and narcotic consultative services, as well as several other multidisciplinary pain management services available on-site. These include behavioral health counseling, physical therapy and massage therapy.
The Pain Management Center offers an interventional procedure suite with new, dedicated fluoroscopic equipment. Direct fluoroscopic guidance enables our physicians to perform injections, such as selective nerve root blocks, as well as implant epidural catheters and place probes for radiofrequency ablation procedures. Radiofrequency ablation technology is used to treat low back and cervical region pain related to the facet joints. Few pain centers on the North Shore offer this procedure.
Percutaneous disc decompression is a procedure for individuals diagnosed with a contained disc herniation associated with continual pain, who have failed conservative treatment with physical therapy, medications and epidural steroid injections.
The Pain Management Center's specialist physicians also offer intrathecal pump implantation and therapy for chronic, intractable and/or primary or metastatic cancer pain. For indications such as failed back syndrome, radicular pain, degenerative disc disease, or complex regional pain syndromes, spinal cord stimulation is available to appropriate candidates as a treatment option.
The Center has taken steps to enhance patient care through integration with the Spine Center, also located at the Beverly Hospital at Danvers. The Pain Management Center's behavioral health specialists, physical therapist, nurses and complementary practitioners, together with our spine specialists, will help those struggling to manage the physical and emotional challenges of chronic pain experience an optimal level of health and well-being.
The Pain Management Center specialists diagnose and treat a variety of pain conditions. They have several treatment options with which they can remedy acute or chronic pain.
If you are experiencing painful symptoms, we can evaluate you and treat you, on an outpatient basis. The Pain Management Center patient care program begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your specific problem and history. Our pain specialists will develop a pain management treatment plan tailored to you and your problem, in conjunction with your referring doctor.
Making Your Appointment
Talk with your primary care physician first to find out if he or she thinks treatment by the specialists at the Pain Management Center may offer you relief from your painful condition.
If the Pain Management Center is a good option for you, be sure your doctor contacts the Center with your referral. Also, be certain your doctor provides a copy of your medical records prior to your first appointment.
If you have additional medical records at home, bring them to your first visit. Also, bring a written list of all the medications you are presently taking to your first appointment.
The Pain Management Center accepts most health insurances and HMOs. Most plans require a referral from your primary care physician. Check with your health insurance company regarding your coverage and co-pays if any.
